Say No to Relocating Our Community Dogs

What's happening

A group of senior citizens in our community has written to the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) asking them to relocate the dogs currently living around Nyati Equatorial Phase 1 and Phase 2. But the dogs living there are part of our community all the same, many of them known, cared for, sterilized, and vaccinated by dog lovers in society on their own cost. Society managment never helped in Vaccinating and Sterlizing the dogs.

We don't believe relocation is the right answer, and we'd like PMC to hear that this isn't a request the whole community agrees with.

Why we're asking PMC not to relocate them

• It isn't legally straightforward. Under India's Animal Birth Control Rules, healthy community dogs generally cannot simply be captured and relocated — the framework is built around sterilization, vaccination, and medical treatment in place, not removal.
• Relocation doesn't solve anything. Removing dogs from a territory usually just means new, unsterilized, unvaccinated dogs move in — undoing years of sterilization and vaccination work already done in this area.
• Many of these dogs are already known and cared for. Several are sterilized, vaccinated, and looked after daily by residents and caretakers — you can see some of their profiles on our Dogs page.
• A dumped dog in an unfamiliar area is often at greater risk — of starvation, of conflict with other dogs, of traffic, and of never being tracked or cared for again.
